There are a number of ways to eradicate rising damp, this can be done by installing a new damp course or injecting a line of bricks with a penetrating sealer but before this is done it is important to know what is causing the problem.
In the case of this house in Paddington (pictured left) many years of water penetrating the bricks below ground level softened the mortar and washed it away, allowing water to pour into the wall cavity. This was fixed by re-pointing the bricks and applying a cementitious membrane to the wall which kept the wall cavity dry and stopped the rising damp.
